Individual Multiple Choice / Free Response Round

1) Students will be provided with a scantron, a number 2 pencil, scratch paper, and one test booklet containing 35 multiple choice questions.; NO CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED FOR ANY PART OF THE COMPETITION.
2) Students will have 30 minutes to finish the multiple choice questions.; Students must not open the test booklet until instructed to do so (DQ).
3) Only answers on the scantron will be counted.; No work on the scratch paper will be counted or graded.
4) Once the thirty minutes have elapsed, all scantrons, scratch paper, and test booklets will be collected.; Students are not allowed to do any further work (DQ).
5) Students will receive a free response booklet with four free response questions.; They will have 10 minutes to complete the four questions.; All work must be shown in the booklet, and answers written in the appropriate answer box.; See ;Rules for Free Responserdquo; section for clarification.

Rules for Free Response and Acceptable Answer Formats

1) All fractions must be reduced to lowest form.; Fractions not reduced will be considered incorrect. (e.g. 10 / 16 = 5 / 8)
2) Mixed numbers are not allowed as answers.; Mixed numbers must be converted to improper fractions. (e.g. 7 frac12; = 15/2)
3) Answers with decimals must at least be rounded to the hundredths (2 decimal places).; Students may include more decimal places if desired (e.g. 2.10363...; should be rounded to 2.10).
4) Answers may be left in square root form if the number is not a perfect square.

Team / Buzzer Round (Tentative – contingent on number of applicants)

1) Each round will consist of three to four teams going head-to-head.
2) A question will be projected on the screen and teams may begin working only after the question has been completely read by the host and the host says,;You may begin.;; Any work being done beforehand will result in the team being disallowed to answer the current question.
3) Once a team feels they have the correct answer, they may press the buzzer to indicate that they will attempt to answer the question.; Once the buzzer is pressed all pencils on that team must be put down and further work must stop (other teams may still continue to work).
4) Once the buzzer is pressed, the team has 7 seconds to provide an answer verbally. ;If the answer is unclear, they may be asked to write the answer on a small whiteboard (to be provided) to clarify.; See ;Rules for Free Response; section for clarification of acceptable answer formats.
5) There will be a question clock which counts down from one minute.; The question clock will begin after the host says, ;You may begin; and stop after a team buzzes in.; If the team is unable to answer the question correctly, the host will ask for the clock to be started again.; If no team is able to answer the question after one minute has passed on the question clock, we will move on to the next question.
6) The first two teams per round to answer 5 questions correctly will move on to the final round of four teams.
